related: co op, seo-guy
Just been looking at related command for seo-guy...
I found dp's co-op as a relation.... Can I assume seo-guy is using co-op and google knows what co op is ? please note i'm not in any way having a go but why would co-op be related?

Related: means they have many links in common.

Ah, was that you?
Anyway - from that search (in my logs) I noticed that my sports site is also related to seo-guy, along with many other off-theme sites. Related: definitely works through links... Links back and forth, and even links from a parent page pointing to two others, can make the latter related in Google's eyes. |

Don't worry LOL
By coincidence I looked at the Gigablast serps for my domain today. These serps contain lots of direct links to serps from other SEs. And right there on page one was a related:seo-guy-etc.etc. query that caught my eye. It had an old cache though (mid februari), and if I run that query today, my domain no longer seems "related" to seo-guy's. That's all... P.S. there was a related:... referrer in my logs today that seems to originate from another co-op type network. Like you I don't use these things anymore, but the relation is quite persistent sometimes - apparently |

Themed links are a myth methinks. I don't think the links in the coop hurt ya and definitely help. Heck, if theme were such a big deal then that search for mysterious stranger or whatever it was - oh right - miserable failure - wouldn't work the way it does. I.E. Google bombing wouldn't work. Now, I'll grant you that themed links might give more weight so that you could potentially get 10 links to my 100 or something but hey - if you've got the weight to spare in the coop why not use it? As far as bad relations goes, I've posted on that one before - don't get me going again. It's certainly possible there are bad relations (neighborhoods whatever) in there. Must avoid that rant...must avoid... G-Man

Miserable failure not a good example as what theme would that come under... Its so generic.... My other problem loads of little links from random sites is dilution... I am a believer in themed links.. My proof Mar 23, 2005 9 Mar 22, 2005 43 Mar 21, 2005 9 Mar 18, 2005 38 Before the superbowl this term didn't move from no1... This term has one link off a PR5 homepage non themed... This term jumps like a jumping thing... Themed links seem to move far far less... This is my opinion on MY evidence..... |

gabs, if you are so worried about displaying non-themed out going links on the coop try displaying them on your blog. it seems the engines have taken blog spam into consideration and blogs can do no wrong ;)
another option is to put the outgoing links on a site you dont care about and point the incoming links to the site you do care about! |

I agree with this statement 100%. A very nice conclusion. A sites long term stability and viability is found in permanent themed links. Preferrably one way. My personal research on this matter supports this entirely. However, they are not necessary to ranking, they are just the best for rankings.

i think we can all agree that permanant one way themed links are the best way to obtaingood rankings...however in my industry it isn't possible to obtain that many themed links. the only way to do it is to be a large nationwide association (which is all that is beating me in G)
i have more backlinks than the associations, but i would trade them for their themed links in a heart beat! |

When the co-op gets big enough, it will be split into themes - As it is, when you create an ad, it asks you to specify which category it will go in. Right now that's just for statistical purposes, but eventually that will be implemented. But without big enough numbers in each category, it will cause lots of duplicate links and not enough sites to propogate the links across.

Heheh - you're a bit of a troll over there aren't you.
Don't bite the hand of the master BTW. DP's co-op is still the most useful one. Suppose he decides to add nofoll0w attributes, then what...? |

if he adds nofollow attributes then everyone leaves the coop...its not an advertising network.
im usually not one to argue too much online, but cmon! there was one guy over there that agreed with me atleast. |
