NONE! Since the comment links are nofollowed

Well for most blogs they are nofollow as its the default setting but for those that are follow, and using seoquake in firefox you can view which blogs have follow and which dont.

So!!!

'Say you find a blog and its homepage PR is 6 you place a comment in a subpage (most of them have PR 0) does google take the 6 or the 0 into account???'

Anyone?

PR0 (actually probably between 0 and 1).

PR is calculated / allocated per page, NOT per site.

Yeah thats what I thought.

I've heard that sites cant be harmed by backlinks no matter where they come from relavant or no-relavant blackhat sites etc.

Would you agree with this or not?

if not then you think it could have a negative effect on the sites serp?

Thanks for the reply as well, that helped

Agree except in extreme cases. However, the less relevant a link is to your site, the less value it can impart.

PR of the page, not of the site. Most probably ofr blogs it's no follow, so it will not count.

If you are looking for a way to increase the Page rank of your website I have just this evening created an article which looks at all the possible directories you can submit your blog/ website to.

Its under the address : matthewseymour.co.uk/2008/09/12-free-site-directories-to-increase-google-page-rank/
(Cannot create links at the moment)
This is the 12 Alternatives I have found to the major submission sites, though there all very good. Might be worth a look to see if you can increase PR that way.

In relation to the post, most blogs have a website option. This will not increase your page rank but it does provide a good link for others to your websiter; and therefore increasing the number of visitors.

Thanks

Matt

Most don't do anything... if you post in a popular thread... one that lot of other websites link to... then you can get something... but just posting and having a sig link is like driving a car only on fumes... it doesn't... but it's makes for a good cliche.

I agree but I should say that blog commenting is a waste of time in terms of SEO.

There are a lot more "IF 's" that you need to have in order to make this statement true.

As such your comment is more wrong than his.

If you are commenting the first post from the top it usually has PR-1 of the main page, you just can't see it because PR export is done every 3-4 months. But most probably it has it.
The problem is as the time goes this post will go more and more down and it will have smaller and smaller PR. So when you comment on the first post on the blog (and it is also important to be as closer as possible to the top) you will temporarily got a high link juice, but very soon it will melt.
Theoretically, if you could know the actual date when Google is taking his PR snapshot you could submit a comment on a first posts of many high PR blogs and receive a good PR on following export. That is the reason why Google doesn't tell us when is next snapshot being taken or when is the next PR export.
