Assuming they did, how valuable do you think such a link would be worth? If a "special" link such as an .edu or .gov can/could be acquired so easily I think it would speak for itself that it isn't what its cracked up to be.

I will not link exchange with anyone, not traditionally anyways... I link to many people who link to me but we didn't exchange links, it is all natural.

I used to be an .edu and .gov webmaster and can tell you that they really hate people asking them for links.

I just wrote an article about getting .edu and .gov links.

A good tip is to search for your keyword and .edu or .gov only sites.

Use the following link to find them for your keywords.

It helps if you have a relevant article that they can link to rather than just asking for a link.

Use Google Advanced Search feature and put .edu or .gov in the "Search within a site or domain:" field

This is hard, I rather have a great content and have as many people coming from my same niche link to my site editorially given, whether or not from .edu or .gov. I rather spend time perfecting my site content/purpose than looking for this.

actually i am in search of .edu & .gov blogs, forums and guestbook for place my link, i think that google prefer .gov & .edu likes special domain's back links.

GOV and EDU sites will only link to your site if they feel that the content on your site is valuable to their visitors.

...else no matter how much you request for a link...they simply won't respond.

So build your content up to the highest grade possible and then you might attract some links from EDU and GOV websites.
