Links within a web site

Hi All,

I realize that having links to other sites helps the PR, my question is do links within your own site help as well? What I am trying to find out is on my index page should I create links within the text for example when I introduce a topic say PKI should I link to my PKI page...(I do link to my PKI page from my index page already) - do I link to it again? I would of thought that doing so would be considered a type of spamming? Is it? or is spamming just when you overuse keywords?

I hope that what I just wrote made a little sense to someone....

Thanks

Sammi

Internal linking won't increase your PR, but properly done, it will ensure that all your pages are properly indexed.

Adding extra links within your site won't make any difference. Having links from other sites that have a high PR is the way to go.

How your internal linking is done can have an effect on the PR of your index page. Read this for examples of how PR is affected by your link structure.

Be sure to remember that not only having the links is important - but the text used is a key component.

Thnks Darrin, that is actually the one thing that I did understand properly and I am in the midst of changing the "click here's" for more "keyword friendly" text links such as About PKI...
One more question, Does the length of a link matter, what I mean is can you use one of your keyword phrases for a link or are you better off with 2 - 3 words...

Thanks

This is open to debate, but I believe that the length does matter. I try to keep them short (less that 4 or 5 words, with a 60 / 70 character limit) but if the link has be long I wouldn't worry too much so long as the text is related to the page where it links to!
