Hello, wondering about links... I have a 4 year old website, PR4 that I am thinking about adding links to. Right now I have about 150 links. If I add 500 new links all within a week, will this land me in the Google sandbox?

No, not in the (regular) sandbox, but unless your pages have a very good (topical, newsworthy) reason to be linked to that often within a week, it might trigger a bit of a penalty.

It may manifest itself as a devaluation of the 500 links for a given length of time (say - 2 months), or - if the 500 links in question look very spammy (and be honest here ) - as a ranking drop.

Tough call. Any way to get these links to appear a bit more slowly???

Are you talking about 500 links from 500 different websites on different ip blocks or a sitewide?

Just think about it. You have had about 150 links for several years and you triple it in a day.

The quantity doesn't both me personally, it's the single IP and sitewide aspect that I think will get you slammed. Outside of that, you said the right words imho ;)
