Question Link: -versus- Linkdomain: to find Popularity SERPs

Interesting, doing a Link: or linkdomain: on AlltheWEb

will bring up link popularity SERPs (slightly different) but on Yahoo & MSN only the Linkdomain: works
:-?

Hmm, in fact both Y and MSN support the (more specific) link: command, but they need you to include the http:// bit, so

link:http://www.example.com/whatever

(TBH - I think my backlinks checking tools round-up doesn't need an update yet...)

Question A new SEO Discovery?

The difference in the SERPs are striking

Perhaps, Link means something different than Linkdomain

Could it be that linkdomain is referring to site as opposed to page

This means that Inktomi's algorithms may be more advanced than Google's - in that one area :

link - all the pages that link to a specific page
linkdomain - all the pages that link to any page in a specific site

Lightbulb @ USE the @ Sign to find your REAL Links

Here is an interesting experiment...

instead of using the link:

try using the @ directly in front of your web page url (no spaces)

Look at the Links Differences for your SITE

(google's version of linkdomain: )

True (to some extent). The @example.com method is in fact identical to "example.com". You'll have to check though if all those hits are real backlinks...

Isn't that kind of just like doing a search for the text "mysite.com" as opposed to the sites that google sees as relevant links to your site?

Exclamation Another Brick in the Wall

Done about 1000 searches over time using both techniques
the results ARE different

But it is just another "tool" in diciphering the MYSTIQUE that is Google
