How to get backlinks
The keywords I want to optimize for are Payroll and Bookkeeping in the UK.
Please please please, could someone sugest how on earth I'm meant to get good links pointing to my site. I am struggling to think of a way to ask other payroll related sites to link to me, as the chances are we will be in direct competition and they wont want to. Any ideas or hints would be really great. my site is www.bacs2basics.co.uk thanks. |

I moved the post/thread to the link popularity forum... If you check this forum you'll find lots of ideas - in particular in this post. Contact me (email in profile) about this site (I have a proposal for you). I took a (very) quick look at the site and have one tip: Your "home page" links should point to the domain root (remove "index.html" from the url's). Good Luck

You could try getting links from related blogs by blog commenting.

I realise that directories are a less than ideal method of gaining links but there are plenty of uk accounting directories out there.
It's a place to start at least. |

Yes, the "home" links are better now You have one further weakness which is canonical (ie: Your domain can be accessed both with and without the "www"). Currently Google have cached both versions so it could cause issues if left as it is. I can't tell from the whois database whether the host server is Apache or not. If it is, you can prevent canonical issues by adding this to the domain root .htaccess file (or creating an .htaccess file and adding to the domain root on the server): RewriteEngine On If you don't have Apache, let me know the server-type and I'll find the right solution. Sorry about the email address - I took it off 'cos I kept getting spammed by linkbuilding services I've sent you a mail |

Hi clickyB. I'm interested in the above - do you think you could explain a little more about it? I find it annoying if the site doesn't work either way, and notice that most sites use both ways. Also, have never come across anyone warning you with this??? Cheers, Matt... |

You can write some short descriptive articles and submit to free articles site and to write some articles on www.squidoo.com. Personally I've just tried the second method without much success, but I still hope the squidoo articles I wrote will get a better pageRank...
If your clients have a presentation site maybe you can ask for some links from them, after all you are not their competition |

Search for site or blogs that are not in competition. It could be an accountant just blogging or something.
Be engage in the community your industry have. Blog is effective tool here. Give away info that will help the community in general. |
