How many links in a month?

My site is about 1 Year old and has been optimised for about 10 months.

Its in a quite competative area and doing well but i wanted to know how many high quality links should i build a month but still not trip a google filter?

I wonder if anyone knows a perfect answer to this question..

Links are just links.. u cannot measure them with the quantity.. infact the real meteric to measure them is quality..

Its not at all about the count of links.. its always an ongoing process.. you can't stop even though U got enough..

I understand that you can trip a google filter if you build too many links in a month so what would you say is a safe limit?

Build as many links as possible!
Decent linkbaits can generate thousands of links in a day, do you think Google would punish that?

In my opinion .. you should continue making links .. dont compromise on Quality .. dont go after spammy sites and make sure to change the anchors after few links

How many links should you build?

Simple, you can never have enough links - link building is an ongoing process. And no need to worry about Google filters ...Google can't penalize sites for links pointing to them (since you don't have control over who links to you)

...but keep an eye on whom you link to...linking to spammy sites can harm your site.

I believe in linking to sites higher than your page rank.

The more of those you can get the better off you will be. Google does not filter on the basis of a high quality link build rate that is natural. You can get thousands a month without any problem IF the pattern of link acquisition is natural.

The problem is, most SEOs don't build links naturally.

As per the yahoo site explored i have got 1500 links in a month for my new website.
and as per Google webmaster tools,

I have got more than 900 links for my index page only.

I am going very fast that i know, but through only white hat tactics.

I'm averaging 6 new links per day (not counting forum and blog posts and comments).

When I went back and counted TOTAL LINKS acquired in the last three weeks, I was astonished to see that I've gone as follows:

April 28 (2,590)

May 19 (3,240)

new links = 650 (25% increase in 21 days)

despite this huge influx of links, there is no indication of any problems at GWT Site Diagnostics: Google says "There are no problems found with [my] site"
