Buying links

I have a company who offered me to put my link on 5 of their sites that is relevant with content to my website for $1500 a year. These 5 sites have good page rank. Well there are 2 sites with a page rank of 1. 2 other sites have a page rank of 3 and a site with a page rank of 5. Is this worth that cost? any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

It doesn't worth. I am sure you can easily find lots of websites related to your content and make link exchanges with them. But if you can buy that link from that PR5 page with a reasonable price, it's okay. But you can waste $1500 for directories, advertisement or else.

If you buy a link you may get banality by Google.

Your question is not that simple. There are so many variables. Such as:
1) Has this site been recognized as a link seller
2) How many other links are on the page
3) How relevant are the sites
4) How trusted are the sites
5) Will the links be followed
6) Will the links bring direct traffic
7) Will the traffic likely convert into sales
8) What is your margin on a sale
9) Has a competator been offered the same deal
11) Will all of the above remain consistent over the period of the link
12) How big an expense is $1500 to you
13) How else could you spend the money

Therefore it is unlikely that you will get any helpful answers to the question as of value of this transaction as there are way to many variables which we do not know.

you can do a lot of things with $1500 than just getting 5 links..

I would spend the $1500 on having three kickass articles prepared (you read that right.... 3 articles). Articles that are best on the web in their theme and that people would be willing to link to without reciprocation. After I have them I would then try to get links for them. I think that they would pull more links than what this person is offering you.

Next year repeat instead of paying another $1500 for the same links.

Think INVESTMENT rather than SPEND.

$1,500 would go along way in terms of optimizing and your site. Don't obsess with PR that much.

As Egol pointed out - think of investment. A good option would be to spend it on improving the content of your site, its usefulness and relevance to your niche.
