Bad links? If so why.
Here's a site: triancadbury.com
Loads of bought links on there. Are links on sites like these beneficial? It has a PR4 but yet a search on Google for http://triancadbury.com/ shows nothing.
Can someone experienced explain everything that's wrong/right with these links?
Why do people buy them, are they good for the short term until they get discounted?
How does it have PR yet it is not indexed in Google?

This is one area where I believe Google when they say you should stay away from sites like this. They were probably removed from the index for being a link sales site with no good content to offer to the index.
They probably have PR from a shady 301-redirect in place.. You would definitely want to stay away and unfortunately it's sites like that are prevalent on big link sales forums. You spend more time weeding through the bad sites.. when you could have gone out and found some decent links in the meanwhile.
Any site that sells posts or is blatantly selling links is a no-no.

I haven't looked at the site you mention, but 'toolbar PR' is not 'PR'. They could well have had all their PR removed (updated continually), but the toolbar has not been updated yet (approx every 3 months).

Does look like a pretty obvious site for displaying sold links. I imagine its juice has been killed.
Google does say do not sell links or your juice will be killed. Next PR update i imagine its PR will vanish.
If your not even ranking for domain name that suggests your site has been booted from the index. Visable displayed PR will not change until next PR update.

Really ugly site, would not want a link from there even free.
That is a dropped domain: http://web.archive.org/web/20071225163730/http://www.triancadbury.com/

I've looked at the site now... 'goodness me' it's bad!
I am well up for 'playing the system', but that is just stupid and an open door for a SPAM REPORT! And looks like it's already been found out for that matter.
But I have learned a new SEO term from about a third of the way down the page - "cocoa backlinks butter"

If it is not indexed at all and shows some type of PR in the toolbar than it is obviously fake because pages removed from the index do not carry PR. Even if the page was indexed I find using the info: operator helpful to tell you if another site is just 301 redirecting to a domain for purpose of faking PR. When using the info: operator you will find another domain name instead of the one you are searching if the PR is faked.

Almost certainly was fake PR. Really bad site. This is a great example of short term thinking that is referred to numerous times on this forum. If you're thinking of parting with cash for paid links on a spammy site with high PR this is what you end up paying for - at best a useless link (at worst harmful) on a useless web site.
