Backlinks via press releases.
Hi all,
I have a question about getting backlinks via press releases. The company I work for issues a few press releases a year, not many, but they all get picked up via syndication and distributed very widely, however, none of these sites displaying our press releases actually link back to our site - although our domain is in the release. The end resutl is that doing link:domain.com returns about 50 results while domain.com -site:domain.com returns around 284,000 So, my question is: what, if anything, can we do to encourage these sites to link to our website instead of just displaying it as plain text? I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Regards Brad |

Require it.
If you put in the little copyright info at the bottom of the article, then register your site every 3 months with the copyright office (assuming US site here), then you can report any site that copies your article without the link back. But, how are they getting your press releases? If it's something your company writes then sends to them - it's their own fault. If it's being scraped off your site - then put some links within the content (using absolute URLs). The sites that scrape usually don't hold much value, so you don't really have to worry about dupe content from them, and a link from them also wouldn't mean much for your SEO (so not much to worry about there).

Hi jsteele823
Thanks for the reply. Someone in the organisation writes the press releases and sends them out, so they're obviously doing something wrong. I've found a few articles on how to write press releases for SEO, which I've passed on to them so hopefully things will improve with future press releases Many thanks. Brad |

From what I can recall, in order for your press release to link back to your site then you need to pay the press release site a certain amount. There are few free press release sites that do allow link backs, but most allow link backs only when you pay their price. Something to think about and take into account of.
