Is it useful to create external links by competitors’ back links analysis?

I am working on link building campaign for in house project.

I have very good experience to create external links to achieve good result in organic ranking.

But, I have confusion with competitors' back links analysis. There are too many back link analysis tools like Open Site Explorer , Blue Back Links , Back Link Watch and many more.

Is it useful to create external links by competitors' back links analysis?

If our competitors have already developed links over there so but obvious I am second one to get aware about it & create links.

I have not idea what Google thinking about this kind of links but looking forward to know some valuable inputs from SEO Chat Forum members.

Yes... but in many cases you will be getting in touch with a link provider who has been paid by your competitor.

Google will not care if you put a link to where your competitor already had put one... it's a link, a plus for your site...

It is actually a good practice to at least monitor your competition's backlinks... may give you some good marketing ideas...

    Hy,
I also think that it's a good idea to put a link to where your competitor already had.. If that competitor is higger ranked than you.

Yes, it is important to tap your competitor's backlinking strategy. I am not saying that you should get backlinks from same sources... but at least you will get a vague idea what quality of backlinks your competitor has got.
This will help you in creating a more rugged link building strategy.

Use the competitor analysis to find their Achilles Heel and then go after that.

I also think its a great way to test the waters in a new field that you don't know much about. Competitors can teach you a lot about your target demographic
