    Swapping Back Links For Content

    Hey guys

I've been working on a crowd sourced quiz site for a while now, and somebody requested that i add a source field to the questions, so people can link to reference material or sources of the question, similar to wiki footnotes.

It occurred to me that I could use this to generate more content because it essentially provides free backlinks for people who add content to my site, especially if the question they add is relevant to the content of their site.

I'm trying to add a bit of quality control by making anonymously added questions have rel="nofollow" on the source link, and hopefully the voting mechanism of my site should take care of poor quality questions.

Do people think this is a reasonable strategy? The site is quizmash.com

    Cheers

    Sounds good to me.
Are you sure you can handle the spam attacks?
People will start asking crap questions and adding links in the resource boxes.

I agree its a good way to attract attention.

That's true. the site automatically removes questions with 3 downvotes, so hopefully i won't have to do too much moderation, but it is a risk. I could always make them nofollow until they have at least a couple of upvotes as a solution.

I don't think three negative votes to delete the question would work. People can still misuse that. Better make a system that will flag the question for moderation.

I believe moderation is what will gain you trust and followers. I am a category Super and Wiki answers and we know what the hell we have to deal with everyday. (psst I am not very active lately)

So get a community growing and they will keep the site spamfree. wish you all the best.

yeah you're right. Ideally i want to build it up to something community based and administered like stackoverflow.

Thing is i need content to build a community, and a community to build content. Chicken and egg problem

    Thanks for the feedback
