    Cool Link Building Location

    Hi there,

    Recently started trying to improve the ranking of my online store, however I have no experience with the SEO of ecommerce sites. When I begin my link building campaign, would you guys recommend building links to just the home page, across the key pages or to as many pages as possible? (Products, blog posts e.t.c)

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I would build links to the internal money pages rather than the home page.

    In my experience best results are obtained when sites help searchers find the page on their site that best answers their search questions as they progress through the purchasing cycle/process.

    This means encouraging links to the most relevant internal page for a given search query.

    In broad terms, purchasing process searches will likely evolve like this:

    • Search for a problem or solution
    • Search for a product category/sub-category
    • Search for an online store category that provides products
    • Search by specific brand or company name
    • Modify search queries to use relevant location words
    • Inclusion of "ready to buy" words in searches. Eg. reviews, prices, best, cheapest, free delivery, discounts, coupons, etc.

    What I find is most e-comm search query volumes are based on:

    • Type of business category
    • Type of product category / sub-category

    It is essential that you publish informative product category/sub-category pages and encourage links to them. This is where many shopping cart systems fail.

    Eg. You possibly want product category pages that allow you to promote product specials in the category, category related coupon offers, category special prices and category free delivery offers, etc.

    E-comm sites also need to come to grips with G now skewing search results to the location of the searcher even when no location word is used in the search query term.
