Maybe I'm just a scrooge about dishing out links - I think I'm worrying too much about the what ifs and should worry more about developing it!!
You definitely don't want to help your competitors which is why I suggested keeping it on your own site..haha If you were to host the widget on your site you wouldnt be dishing out any links, you'd likely be getting links in if it was something that people needed.
I like your thinking about the what ifs and moving forward. It's not a bad thing to think about certain situations but it is very easy to get hung up on those things.
I'd like to hear some follow up about this so please keep us or me posted.

Sorry - I prob wasn't very clear in my last post. When I said helping competition out - I meant, I was putting myself in the mind of the competition. i.e. if I were them - I wouldn't want to help me out and therefore wouldn't display the widget!!
Anyway, I'll keep you posted

Great thread, excellent insight into the methodology of link building and marketing. I find it extremely interesting that most people do not take the time to research the market and review analytics prior to developing a plan of action. In my opinion, this equals wasted efforts and lost time, which is not profitable by any means.

My point was to challenge the benefits of using forums as a way to successfully "link build" and the ability to stand by the comment ..uh huh huh uh butthead

Promoting your link bait
I'm a little lost as to the methods of promotion for link bait.
I saw an earlier post from someone who has a loat of .edu links & .nasa links.
How do you go about promoting, what strategies do you use: Forum posting? e-mailing, blog posting, etc...?

For me personlised emails have work best.

A personlised one if possible. It depends on the type of site/person I send it too. I try to only send emails to sites that invite feedback or suggestions.
Make sure you include an opt out choice at the bottom of your email.
Good luck.

After some kind of research I feel we need to write up on daily basis any of the website and it should be linked with home page or targeted page just like latest industries news or latest blogs, you always no need to write different articles than others because there is no change if you write this articles and you will get automatically one ways links always, I think just update your website article, blogs or latest related industries news on daily basis and add all the options like commenting, Sb buttons, rating book marking, print this page, rss feed, if possible than add you websites on some good sb sites and find out your relevant industries blog and also find out your topic and comment on with meaning fully and add your targeted topic links it really works great and this is my personal experience with many of my clients website if I leave any points please mentioned here…….

I know it's a whole lot more work but you should consider manually pointing each page to different pages on the new site. A bulk transfer of a whole site to one page can have a detrimental effect.
