Hi, Thanks for all the expert advice. I am trying to figure out which keywords to focus on for my website, in my chosen area.
So I went to Wordtracker, the trial version, and it returned several keywords with a promising KEI, some of them in the range of 30, and some more than 100, which according to Wordtracker is excellent KEI. Some questions: 1) But how much stock can I put in Wordtracker's KEI, some people like Dan Thies are saying just ignore it? 2) Another question I have about Wordtracker is that it tells me there are 0 competing pages for certain search terms - yet you can go to Google and do an allintitle:search term search for that keyword and come up with HUNDREDS of pages - so where does WOrdtracker come from saying 0 competing pages? 3) Finally, how come Wordtracker tells me that one search term, which it indicated as KEI 112, count of 15 and 24 Hrs 3, yet Overture's keyword suggestion tool shows there were 0 searches on that search term for all of last month. Isn't this contradictory? So it seems that the KEI, count, and competing pages criteria on both Wordtracker are ALL suspect, or am I being too hard on Wordtracker? |

Quote:
these 2 trackers output data from different sources. so the numbers are going to vary. the data will also vary depending on what specifice day or week or month is used. treat all values in a relative way.

What about KEI and competing pages?
Thanks for that reply re Wordtracker vs Overture. I assume the fact they draw on separate data sources means that if you really want to cover your field then you have to check both, but I'm still in the dark about KEI and competing pages though:
Does anybody look at Wordtracker KEI anymore, is it totally invalidated, or still useful in some way to consider? And also, what significance does the Wordtracker competing pages total have, if in many cases there are lots of pages with those particular keywords in the title? Shouldn't that mean that those are "competing pages"? |

I wouldn't bother with the KEI. Just concentrate on the number of searches, then compare this data to Overture.
