Keywords selection doubt

Hi Buddies,

I have got a new site from a client, which is about Education, career, jobs etc.

But it is initially developed for local city, then planning to expand nationally. Then it will become an national education guide.

So to start with local city guide, if i look for local city keywords, there are no popular keywords.

So is that okay to select keywords related to my site, even if the keywords are not popular?

Please advice.

All it depends on the searches made in local city related to your site, if you feel that approaching locally will gather more visitors for u then it's fine..
but as u mentioned above that u are planning to expand it nationally, it will be better to start by keeping that in mind

i suggest you to expand your site nationally and for local city expansion, target one of your site page..... may be you will get good results..

You have mentioned here initially you developed your website for local city but local city keywords have less competition.
So, I suggest go for national keywords and work on that and your local city keywords are automatically come on serps.

I gree with profstan. You can use national keywords because you also mentioned that you are also planning to make it national.
