keyword selection strategy
Keyword Selection Strategy hi all, I have a question for everyone about selecting keywords to target.
In the past I have used a strategy of combining more than one keyword/phrase into a single keyword/phrase (ie, the keyphrase "wholesale shipping supplies" can be used to target the terms "wholesale shipping supplies" and "shipping supplies"). Has anyone else used this strategy of having multiple keyphrases within one keyphrase? Does this dilute the keyphrases you are targeting? You can read the article here . |

It is very often what works best for you. You can get an idea of what will work for you at: www.wordtracker.com .
I find their results less diluted than www.overture.com .

I do this, it works well.
say I am targeting Make money online but I also want to include "make money on the internet I make the title "make money online - Internet money" or something like that. I am however seeing people that are getting good spots with spamming the title. Here's one I saw today that is in the top ten for "free online grants" <TITLE>ONLINE FREE CASH GOVERNMENT GRANTS AND LOANS, grant, government grant, federal grant, college grant, small business grant, pell grant, business grant, free government grant, grant writing, educational grant, education grant, free grant, free grant money,us government grant, government grant for small business, school grant, scholarship and grant, student grant, grant grant grant grant grant, free cash grant, grant money, grant wood, federal pell grant, housing grant, free government funding grant, small business grant for woman</TITLE> They have the top 10 for a few other combination that get searched hundreds of thousands of times a month. Oh well! |

I've been using keywordtracker's free service for some time.
Is there a conventional conversion rate relating the number of queries in AltaVista to the number in Google, MSN, YHOO for a given keyphrase? I've been estimating based on the amount of traffic coming from AltaVista to my site but I realize this isn't perfect since my Google compaign may be more successful than my AltaVista results, which I don't try for. I assume that human psychology is no different for Google as it is for AltaVista and that I would see the same phrases in the paid version (plus some more synonyms no doubt). Any thoughts? |

I'd say exact keywords work better, but longer ones can help too. A mix of both would probably be optimal.
