Hi,
Simple question, which keyword analysis tools do you recommend? I've read that wordtracker is the best. Does it work well for Google optimisation? Many thanks Lar |

PK, I believe you can use their keyword suggestion tool even if you don't have an account https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordSandbox

How accurate do you consider the results to be? Typically we've found them to be wildly out - useful only as an indication for major keywords. Regards, S |

Lar, Wordtracker uses statistical analysis to extrapolate the search results from Metacrawler and Dogpile across the major engines based upon their market share. It does not account for differences in demographics and may be way off depending upon the nature of the search query you are researching.

That tool is just a keyword suggestion tool. If you go through the process of creating an ad in AdWords and add all your keyword than the final step before you confirm your ad is that AdWords calculates the amount of traffic each word will get depending on past searches. It all depends on your bid amount you suggest before the it calculaes so if you put in lets say 100.00 (mind you you aren't finalising the ad so no money is spent) that will guarentee you 1st place. Google will calculate the amount of traffic your ad should see if you were in 1st place. Multiply by 3 and you have the amount of traffic you would get if you had an organic result in 1st place. (Organic receive 3x the amount of traffic AdWords get) By lowereing the bid you can see what your organic result would get if it was in lower SERPs. This is an estimated guess so dont live by that number. Quote:
I have noticed that on certain phrases that aren't popular Google will calculate each word individually. Such as "brown dog" for example. Google will actually calculate the amount of "brown" and "dog" and get an average when in reality "brown dog" is searched alot less together. This happens occasionally on certain phrases. |

Interesting, we've noticed that theres often a multiplier of 100 between the actual number of searches (when we run the ads excluding contextural ads) versus the predicted click throughs. Didn't know about the averages for brown dogs - cheers! Regards, S |

I think broad match results aren't as accurate as phrase match results. I use phrase match because it's alot more targeted and I spend less money for the same amount of purchases. |

Thanks for all your advice, I think I need to get into adwords a bit more, there's obviously quite a bit more to it than I'm seeing at the moment.
Is it generally accepted that organic results recieve 3x more traffic than adwords? Lar |

You can always test the theory if you happen to rank first page for some term...
