Id in the meta tags
Dear All,
Does the id="" in the meta tags affect the ranking in the search engines. For example:- <meta id="ctl00_metaPH_mtaDescription" name="Description" content=""></meta> Is this tag correct or should it be without the id=? I am outputting the id= since I am generating them dynamically from the database Thanks for your help and time Regards Johann |

No! Even the content attribute has no effect on rankings.
Additionally, it should be pointed out that there isn't actually an id attribute for meta tags. Required attributes: 1) content Optional attributes: 1) name 2) http-equiv 3) scheme Standard attributes: dir, lang, xml:lang See www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_meta.asp for additional details.

Better put the question like this, maybe i was misunderstood. Leaving the id="" there, does it do any harm to the search engines? I mean can i leave it there since its generated by the code |

No, it won't harm you with regards to the search engines.
It would prevent the page validating to W3C specifications, but this has no impact on search results rankings. |
