How Many Keywords?

I have a question.. about how many keywords you can target for a site.

Lets say you have food site called ( im making this up ) jumpit.com

The home page of Jumpit.com is targeted at the keyword "Restaurants" and is getting first page ranking on google.

Then you have sub pages for different cities such as jumpit.com/chicagorestaurants.php that are also getting first page rankings for the key word "chicago restaurants".

Now my question is, most of the site is targeted for the keyword "restaurants" and now I want to target a new keyword such as "beer", so if i create a page such as jumpit.com/beer.php , is it possible to achieve ranking in the keyword "beer" ? Obviously with on and off site seo.

i think 10 major keywords will do.. as long as they are relevant to the theme of your site

If with a new website, you are really targetting keywords such as "restaurants" and "beer" having enormous competition, i really appreciate your courage........

I'll suggest you to go for the keywords based on cities, that will make your task quite easier and much more fruitful...

I got it wrong, just misread something from ur post, even then i think the keywords you suggested such as "beer" and "restaurants" are way too generic to begin your optimization campaign with them....

Yes Its POSSIBLE. you can do it but 'beer' is highly competitive keyword. so you can use Contextual Keywords to rank ur site. Always remember..the more competitive your keywrd..the less importance ur url gets..so keep a balance. Also consider other optimzation factors for rankings

Try to add the keyword "beer" on your metas. Though it's less effective but can help a liitle. Then use the word beer as your anchor text when you already have a page for beer.

Try to take some beer for yourself, might chill ya down a bit. Even if you add the keyword "beer" in your metas, it wont make a difference.

All in all a useless advice.
