Create google adwords account, add some fictive ad campaign, insert the keywords you'd like to know about and Google will show you the estimates.

Wordtracker.com is providing kei repots
For your convenience, these results have been sent to the email address you provided at the beginning of this trial. Now you have enough information to spot niches in Altavista. All the other engines are available in the full version. What does it all mean? This is where you spot your niches in Altavista. The figure you want to take note of is the 'KEI Analysis'. The higher this figure, the more popular your keyword is and the less competition it has. This generally means that you will find it easier to reach the top of this keyword. Now you need to make sense of the KEI figure. Generally, a poor keyword to target will have a KEI of between 0 - 10. It's not wise to target keywords with this KEI as there is too much competition and you will probably end up on page 34 and no-one will notice you! Good keywords to target have a KEI of between 10 - 100. These are good value bets and you have a good to medium chance of reaching the top. Between 100 - 400 are your best bets and anything above 400+ is a gift! Let's take an example, the keyword at the top of the list - "scale car models". This has a KEI of 448.268 and is therefore an excellent keyword to target. A gift in fact as its KEI is over 400! You can also use the graph above your keywords to help you visually.

Keywords....
The simple keywords are always the best....and most used !! Finding the right keywords is not only a matter of checking a tool like wordtracker but also analyzing the whole content of a page and optimizing the keywords with the phrases already found in your title...body text etc etc... Only then your page will be succesfull in the ranking with your keywords since no search engine does rank your page ONLY on those keywords UNLESS that keyword has very less competitors. regards, hans |

I've found 'scale car model' with a KEI of 0.153 and a count of 295 within the last 60 days. However don't you take the competition count into perspective?? The competition for 'scale car model' is 550000. Thats a bit high and you'll be buried...
Unless you plan on doing alternative marketing for your targeted word. So as learning the ropes, KEI is not all you look at when chosing your keywords....or is there other factors? Thanks lilbit |

What I do is actually go for the 2nd tier words. My keyword root is business plan but there is no way in hell I will be able to get well listed on that word....so what I do is I use tools such as Wordtracker and Overture to see what the 2nd tier words are, like business plan consulting, etc., which still get high search frequency, and are also frankly better targeted to what I am trying to do. Just my $.02

I agree, I'm having bad luck with most of my root keywords, I'm always going after the 2nd tier words. $0.2 are always welcomed....isn't that how we all gain knowledge! Thanks 8) |
