Finding the right keywords?

Hi

Can someone please suggest a site that will help me find the right keywords to target.

I have heard that www.wordtracker.com is a good site to use, what do you all think?

I use the Overture suggestion pages but maybe its not giving the right words to target.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Kruger

wordtracker is a good tool
just remember that the trail version only gives you results from altavista.

Also take a look at your competitors keywords they might give you some good ideas

Thank you, yes tried Wordtracker and it did report in Altavista, it reported that a few keywords had no competition but then I noticed that it used the keyword on Altavista with "quotes" and soon as I removed them there was pages of sites listed under the keyword. Bit crappy that.

Though not the same sort of beast as WordTracker, last month's searches at Overture.com can also be useful:

overture will provide inflated search resaults because, they do not filter out searches done by software and other tools webmasters use to check ranking on targeted search terms.

wordtracker has filtered results and will provide a more accurate result. If you were to type any serch term in each overture and word tracker your results on overture could be ten times that of wordtracker. As someone that uses word tracker i can tell you they are more accurate.

Wordtracker is my favorite keyword research resource for english language terms too. Worth the fees imo if you are halfway into SEO. One online tool by the way hasn't been mentioned yet and does not have the stemming problems overture has is the espotting tool, overlooked by many but I believe it to be the best free tool apart from the wordtracker trial...
http://espotting.com/popups/keywordgenbox.asp

There is btw a software tool called advanced email extractor. Now before you all cry spam tool with gasp, shock and horror :-) let me explain that the tool does not just extract emails from websites (of which there are non-spam reasons for doing so). It also, with an extra module, allows you to extract meta data from websites. An example of its practical use would be going to the relevant listings in DMOZ/Yahoo, putting in the URL and clicking 'go'. All links on the listings page will be followed and the meta data extracted, collated and available as excel export or whatever. Now THAT is what I call efficient keyword and competition research. Nothing sinister or dark about it either. Where before you would visit the pages individually and check out competitors meta keywords and titles for an idea on keywords, now a tool does that for you and with a click of a button you have a list of potential keywords. I'm not affiliated with the software at all, and I'm not even going to post their url in case they gain pr from this board or anyone doubts that I have a connection with them. Suffice to say it is one of the little known tools and aids that I use myself when researching keywords.
