If I was to reply to this post in such a way that i underline a keyword like Mercedes and then continued to talk about effects of search engine optimisation, it would still have very little to do with the word that is underlined.Originally Posted by Nomanharoon
Because of things like this Google will not value that as any more important (at least i bloody hope so) just because it is underlined. It would make it too easy for spammers.
So in essence i wouldnt underline for seo purposes. Plus on a website an underlined piece of text is generally perceived as a link.

Underline text is a style and has nothing to do with seo or what people are searching for so no, it will have no effect on seo what so ever.
By all means underline text for your users if it make sense, but it will do nothing as far as the search engines are concerned. Think of it as a band poster on the wall down your high street, it might stand out to the human eye to let them know the date, venue and type of music is important, but its not going to make you go to it if its not relevant to what your interested.

Underline, bold, italic style text will have no value from an SEO point of view. It will make the text stand out to the reader though![]()
I agree with the replies. In terms of web design, underlining could be beneficial for user experience, depending on the context of the content of course, but Google's crawlers are unlikely to increase a site's ranking if keywords are picked out for it. Google's too clever for that little ploy.
There is no mean of underlining some word. It is basically used for hyperlink. But now its not effective.
It has no benefit at all from an SEO point of view, but it can be useful for user experience as already stated.
Make sure you don't overuse the underline tool though, as it could make links and underlined text look a bit confusing!
Underlining a word will not help you now for a seo point of view.
