    Most Competitive Term?

What do you think are the most competitive search terms, like "insurance", "personal injury attorney", or "mortgage"?

No matter how much optimization you do, you'll never, ever beat them. That's some tough competition...

Yea, but the kicker is, Bing, Yahoo, AltaVista, and a couple of others out-google google on "search"...

Other than google, the hardest terms to rank for will be industies that make the most money and plough that into their development.

    For example:

    Adult entertainment
    Pills
    Loans
    Insurance

    Etc etc

But I guess some of these will vary depending on location too.

I think EGOL is wrong... The most difficult primary keywords (singular) is 'SEX' and 'FREE'. The absolute most difficult, in combination, would be 'FREE SEX'.

Such results might also be determined by the google staff personally, these are too important results to reflect the search engines accuracy to have anything to do with optimization.

If the site is big and good enough, like imdb, they don't need to do anything to be there.

Search for banks in google.com , 9/10 are banks or news sites.
Its hard to imagine give serp1 to 5 blogs there.

while I've no idea now, a few years back there was a type of cancer -- "meso-sumthin" that was hitting more than $200 per click in Adwords....

tho, for organic search you'd be hard pressed to beat yeah, 'sex' or 'viagra' or maybe even 'SEO' eh?

Even if you did beat them, they have free Adwords and would surround your page with sponsored links paying $100K a click.

    love.com
    sex.com
    money.com

wonder how much these domains names could be sold for?

The question has to do with keywords NOT domain names.

There is no such thing like competitive keyword, people search based on the economic situation. Why would anybody buy a house or a plot in recession times. People's searches are closely associated with that topic that is making news .
