    Hi reborn,

For the major search engines the meta-keywords tag is a complete waste of time... About all it will achieve is to define your keywords for your competitors!

    Thanks 'n Brgds,
It cannot hurt to ad the keyword description. Sure your competitors can look in the keyword tag and pull out your keywords; however, any smart competitor could run a keyword density test and do some basic research and find out what your targeting.

    • ClickyB : (0) Keyword density is even less meaningful than meta-keywords. If you checked the KW density for Dell you wouldn't even find their #1 ranking major keyword!
    • manray : There care Google gives for Keyword Density is zero.

I dont think there is any such thing like ideal number for meta keywords. What is more important is the keyword density.

Google doesn't want a site to be able to game/abuse the system. Obviously, meta keywords would be a prime way to do so and therefore are ignored by Google.

The only on-page SEO you should really spend a lot of time on is <titles></titles>.

if one key words, it would be the best.

in most siutation, you should limit within 3 pcs.

If too much key words, it will make google rebot confuse.

you also can build another website for other keywords.

Originally before keywords no longer counted on Google, 15 keywords was considered ideal. Now these days I only keep up with Google, maybe a bit snobish of me but some the other smaller engines still require keywords.

The fact that Google no longer counts them means that there is no harm in taking the time to fill in that section of the code for the rest of the world.

I still do it and it has produced results in some engines where you would not expect. Pick your 3 or 4 main words, any software or manual submissions you wish to do will still ask you for keywords so its worth working out what you need and of course you are doing it anyway for your rankings.

Obviously you use your main 3 or 4 keywords for the majority of your content and work it up from there.

    Cheers
