This keyword competition is Low with 720 Global Monthly Search and 110 Local Monthly Search on Google Dot Com. You can go for SEO and SMO to get good position in Google Search Engine. Especially you can go for

    1. Forum Posting
    2. Link Wheel using Web2.0 Websites
    3. Article Submission
    5. Facebook Fan Page Creation
    6. Twitter
    7. LinkedIn

This are some good activities and can get immediate result.

    Hey sally
You are having a great domain, 16 years old domain holds hell lot of authority. Just practice quality, relevancy, and diversity in link building.
Try to get link from relevant content, go social, and do not participate in link wheels as suggested by Ncrypted or link schemes. You will easily rank for any keyword you want related to your business.

Thank you for your positive replies...

Yes the domain age is going to be my strength.

But still targeting keyword like 'banking software solution' seems to be tough. Only big sites are present as of now like ibm, wiki etc.

    Hi Test,

yes i have them in my title.

Link building i am using some good directories, relevant forums and blogs, social bookmarking, PR & article, doc sharing, some content rich presentations on service (no guest blogging)... but usually i manage to get the url as an anchor text but not a matching keyword...

I think my keyword selection process is not focused. I optimize a webpage for 3 phrases, related phrases, but not so closely related. I should change this to one keyword per webpage or very closely related 2 phrases.

For instance optimizing 'online banking software' and 'online banking system' seems to be not so focused. but 'online banking software' and 'online banking solutions' seems to be focused. Am i right?

I am just trying to improve my keyword selection...

if you can replace the top 10 sites who are already ranking for that keyword?? You mean outdo these sites that are in better ranking positions than you, right??
If so, you will need to use SEO software that will fascilitate your work and will help you find which webpages outrank you (on this keyword) so that you implement a similar strategy in order to outrank them instead of going to blind.
Thus, you will need to use tools like Web SEO Analytics (SERP Analysis) --> SERP Analysis - SERP Analyzer - Free SEO Tools - Web SEO Analytics
You can also use SEMrush --> SEMrush - service for competitors research, shows organic and Ads keywords for any site or domain

URL as your anchor text will not help you to rank for your keywords.

Do not target only money keywords, be diverse in using keywords.

According to me, you should focus on creating some quality backlinks, social media website, forum postings, etc., in order to replace those top 10 sites on Google...

Well, your domain is 16 years old, its a good factor that will assist your website in getting on top, but do some quality work with unique content. You can post on free blog sites, article sites etc. Try to do regular work for your domain, forum submission can also be a great option to get traffic as well as ranking of your website.
