    Best Keyword Density Tool

Can anyone recommend the best free tool for checking keyword density?

I've had so many suggestions made I don't know what to use and they all give slightly different results (some more than slightly!) :

Some are case sensitive with no option to choose which threw me for a while.

    Thanks, Gay

Honestly clark, I dont beleive in KW density myself, you will see suchvaried results: #1 for one term is 12% #1 for just as competitive a term is 0% its just to frusterating to chase.

The way I go about it is 1 element at a time in a checklist

Do I have it in my title? Check!

Did I mention it in my first paragraph? Check?

At this point you should really just write your page as it should be written and forget about SEO onpage for a while. Go build up your backlinks and see where you land. Afterwards you can always add more density, but to hack your site to pieces to accomodate 15% density just because you saw the #1 guy had it compromises the quality of your site.
Write for your users, forget about density nfire:

I agree with seo guy, some of these tools are great whilst you are building your pages just so you have a good grounding of on page optimisation but that's about it. Watching them and making changes to your site every other day isn't going to increase your rankings to any great degree.

Build your page, get backlinks, get more backlinks, check your rankings a couple of times a week and when you start ranking highly, that is the time to start tweaking your on page optimisation. These tools won't help you then, it will just be a case of changing one thing at a time, trial and error, and watching the results.

    Good luck

Most onpage changes produce very little impact on rankings since Florida. Density does not seem to add lots of weight.
Make pages for users and put the keys here and there like seo guy said. If you try too much to make it stick out, it seems to have a bad effect. Looks like it anyway.

Yes, I'll also agree with everyone here. On Page factors such as Keyword Density and Prominence aren't that important. They should be done, but only after you have your offpage factors in line...

I find the density/prominence tool at ranks.nl to be a joy to use.

Not sure how important it is to Google, but it's worth a pop for some other search engines.

IMHO you don't need to bother with keyword density, its very miniscule. I'd focus on, like SEOGuy said, Title, Text, and Links.

I know this is in the Google forum and this may be slightly OT. But surely keyword density to a reasonable degree is necessary, simply because other search engines DO use it extensively.

Ignoring every other engine and not optimising at all may have an overall negative effect on your site, although not necessarily on Google SERPS.

Like everything else, density analysis is good in moderation.

    Thanks I'll try it.

I've been using this to check the number of outbound links.

    Very useful before swapping links.

PRProwler does that too but it also uses an algo to estimate the amount of return PR the link will generate. How accurate it is Im not sure, but I've bought it and Im using it, so maybe we'll see in a few months.

I'll use them both in tandem, log it all, and tell you which is most effective.

    That'd make an interesting experiment.

I've been using http://www.keyworddensity.com/ but not now as everyone says that KD don't have much effects like before. But onething, if you are using the tools, just stay with only one tool because different tools shows different density rates. We cannot decide which one to believe.
