validation practice
If i develop a page that i validate to HTML 4.0 and leave a couple of errors in there will this cause problems.
The reason i ask are many but, for example, say i work on a site for a client who isnt too up on page design and he/she adds a new line of text without using CSS and adds code for text size etc.

For the most part, no. Most browsers are very forgiving as to what they will allow.
Search Engines ignore 99% of your code anyway, they just dig for the good stuff.
