Pure CSS?

Hi all - I was wondering if anyone here had thoughts regarding developing a web site in pure CSS...seeing as how there would be less code involved, would that make it more friendly to search engines?

Re: Pure CSS?

<coming out of lurkdom>

Definitely! SEs love the separation of style from content - makes it much easier for them to get to the content of a page w/o those horrible font tags <spit> getting in the way

Using CSS for presentation is right in every way, including SE. If done properly, not only do the SE not have to sort through font tags, they also don't have to find their way through nested tables and various other tag soup.

With CSS you have the ability to put the content first in your code, meaning the SE will rank it higher, then style it so that your navigation shows at the top of your page in browsers (if you want to).

You do have to be careful though, as different browsers' implementation of CSS vary greatly, so make sure you test it thoroughly!

check out htt*://www.oyster-web.co.uk - they use pure CSS (they call it "fluid CSS") and rank first on their keywords.
