Talking Newbie PHP. MOD-REWRITE, HTML, CSS, SEO, MYSQL Adventures

my site......
http://www.tanela.com

Just want to see what other developers are using and tips.
Am an old COBOL mainframe programmer...trying to learn something new. Got tired of reading about it, i decided to do as i learn.... been at it for about a year...
Am still a newbie to HTML, CSS, PHP, and MYSQL, trying to stay away from JavaScript.....or use it very sparingly

MOD_REWRITE mind boggles me..is hard but i got it to work

---I try to have all my page validate W3C
---PHP error - am trying to have php code generate no error or notice messages.

---At moment am reading allot about security, TABLELESS pages. and i wanna try Strict doc type too....

---on MOD-REWRITE... am trying to include location(country, state, city) on URL to look static.....kind in Mod-rewrite hell again.
i want the location to show up on my links so it can be bookmarked. At moment location is store in SESSIONS and can not be bookmarked
www.domain.com/artsandcrafts/beadings/usa-ca-losangeles.html

---security - I have none...lol... am reading allot about it. at moment I can hack my own site...hehehehehe
but am not too worried about it...i carry no sensitive information that is not gotten public

I am finally being crawled allot by search engines...Google, and yahoo, and msn and a bunch of other crawlers have been finding me

My page rank of Low...varies between 0-2. I have one link back...lol...someone actually found me and gave me a link back... lol.. Amazing

Search Engines are visiting me daily now...all of them just about...but not always do they do a deep crawl.

This a site-visit-log I make for myself....hehehe..i get bored
http://www.test.tanela.com/syslogte...p=view&sys=prod

I got it so that the City(location) is now part of the address in the URL line by using MOD-Rewrite. It looks Static now
http://www.tanela.com/artandcrafts/...California.html

next i think i wanna play with images....using "GD Graphics Library"...lol...just enough so a user can upload and manage his images...

OH well.....maybe one day I'll know enough to get out of COBOL

Am now HTML 4.01 Convert to XHTML 1.0

I converted my site now from "HTML 4.01 Transitional" to "XHTML 1.0 Transitional". All pages are Error Free, at least most are. I used Firefox's 'Html Validation extension" to make first pass at validating, Then I Also validate at W3C. Since I was at W3C I also took the time to Validated my CSS and fix it.

Took me maybe 1 night to Convert it all. A lot of it was ok already since i had good "HTML 4.01" already. I had also followed simples tips, like keeping attributes lower case, closed quotes, closing all tags.... so it was not that hard.

NEXT I wanna convert to "XHTML 1.0 STRICTl". Good-bye to me opening windows in a new _TARGET .
This is gonna be a pain, Alot of CSS to replace things like "width=", "border="; and a ton of other attributes not allowed.

I try the Tableless pages maybe once my code is "XHTML 1.0 STRICT" complient.

Am also still playing with GD.....did not get far on that yet.

Yahoo search Engine is loving me...I am actually am getting good placement in yahoo results.

Google does not seem to wanna touch me ... not even with a 10 feet pole. I know i need to Exchange links...but I do not like the idea of begging sites to exhange links. And I do not wanna resort to Affiliate links and other scams to boost my rank.

AHHH, I also added a phpBB Forum to my Site under a subdomain of http://www.forums.tanela.com/

Well, this was my Last Entry on these topics... Am just wasting space here, Doubt anyone cares...hehehe. Original purpose was to get feedback...But I never did

heh, I'll probably try to install a BLOB so i can keep doing this.....

But for now... Ciao....and BTW...SEO CHAT FORUM is great, i been learning alot from here
