Can we use <map></map> instead of <img>

Discuss Can we use <map></map> instead of <img> in the HTML Coding forum on SEO Chat.
Can we use <map></map> instead of <img> HTML Coding forum discussing anything related to HTML coding, such as using proper HTML code, optimizing code to be spidered easily, creating layers and tables. Make pages compatible for different web browsers like IE, Firefox, and Opera.

Can we use <map></map> instead of <img>. In fact we define image coordinates in map with area attribute. Is that fine with google?
