Background Sound

Hi

I need some help.

I am trying to help a friend with his web page. He wants to have background music on his site and I hate background music. I suggested he provide visitors an option to turn off the sound. He then asked me how to do it.

So here I am, once again my big mouth has got me in trouble and I am trying to go beyond my abilities.

I have found some code that will bring up whatever the default audio program is but I can not find out how to make it work across platforms. I like my sites to be non browser specific and test them on IE and NS.

What I need to be able to do, is when the page loads, that player controls are available to switch off the sound.

Can anyone help please?

John

You can try converting your sound files into Real Media. They have a program called Real Producer Basic that can create a wab page with your choice of controls embeded.
Once created you can modify it with an Html program and simply copy and paste it into your webpage.

Hope this helps.

My suggestion would be to create a MIDI file and have it as an include. It should automatically integrate with Windows Media Player and there should be a stop option.

SIMPLE!

You have certain codes for music with a player. I know the codes (i have my own html site).

<embed src="musicfile.file"> (doesn't matter what type, can be wav, mp3, midi etc)

With this code you will have a on/off button. You can add some things like <embed src="URL" controls="smallconsole"> for a small player. Email me if you are having problems. (erik.d@hccnet.nl)

Send a message via ICQ to zen
make it a small flash movie with an "on/off" button with the appropriate actionscript, play/stop. takes five minutes to do.

But do try to convince him that a business site with music is a turn off and screams amateur design. if he is selling things, make sure you tell him that most people shop from work, and when they get to a site with music, the get out of there FAST so as to not be caught shopping when they are supposed to be working.
