Toolbar submits my site?

I've just been reading http://www.seochat.com/viewtopic.php?t=902 which talks about the Alexa Toolbar being a notice to their spider to visit the site you've browsed.

Does Google work the same way. If I surf my own site will I be telling Google extra info about how cool my site is. Should I uninstall before checking out my competition?

No, it doesn't work that way with Google. There are voting buttons which presumably Google uses in some way, but since any webmaster could vote for his/her own site, I doubt they will help your ranking in any way.

What I believe visiting your site with the Google toolbar installed does do, is to tell Google that it exists and it will probably be spidered subsequently.

Gringo.

I have a case that may confirm your point, I had a page that haven't been read by Google Boot in my web site since its creation (at least 3 Google dances) and Google referenced it further to the last Google dance a few days after I used the voting button

Anybody had seen this before?

gringo said 'visit the site' not 'use the vote button'.

If you enable the PageRank indicator, the toolbar will track your browsing activity. Also, Google says:
Quote:
With the advanced features disabled, no information about the page you are viewing will be sent to Google unless you explicitly request more information about that page (such as with the "Cached Snapshot", "Backward Links" or "Similar Pages" features).

Google Toolbar Privacy Policy

The use of the Google Toolbar is strongly suspected to be "assisting" the Googlebot:

Googlebot spiders website less than 1 day old

Does Googlebot follow searchers?

Straight from the Google Toolbar's logs.

From the looks of it, I'd estimate my toolbar on my home computer does a freshness check for 1 / 10 sites I visit, at random - based on the checksum of the page. This would mean that the toolbar must load after the page is served, so that it can parse the page for a checksum.

So basically, the more you surf your own sites the more it will check for "freshness".

The google bar does effect how your site gets crawled, Im pretty sure anyway.

The more i surf my own site, the more the google bot hits my site. The weeks that i only use IE (w/ the google bar) to view my site, google spiders my site more frequently, the months i dont use IE at all, it spiders less.

It is a difference of google visiting my site once a week, and three times a day.

I am going to start a thread on how to track this suspicion...

google does use the toolbar for links to spider.
just create an orphan page and toolbar it.
prove it to yourself if you must.

as far as the toolbar making the googlebot spider it more frequently....i have never seen or read anything to confirming that.
but i am open to considerations on that point.

I've personally conducted this experiment, a. no backward links, b. no other toolbars, c. only google in advanced mode, d. I voted for the page a couple of times

----- 3 months later it got spidered by the google bot

I can't remember where, but I thought I read a while back that google keeps referrer information and spiders that as well. I have not tested this though.

does anyone know the real reason for the "sad" and "happy" vote faces that the toolbar has?

I'm sure google uses anything and everything to get sites, and especially something like their toolbar.

Now i dont think that the toolbar would get you better pagerank or anything like that.

I'll go a little bit off the subject here lol, but has anyone figured out how to control the auto fill? is there anyway we can grab that info and have us populate it instead of google?
