Is it possible to permanently delete the history in the search box?

I'm using XP and IE 6. How can I permanently erase the history that appears in the Google toolbar search box when I start typing a word? I already tried clearing the IE history in the AutoComplete Forms option under Tools->Internet Options and that does clear the history in the search box on Googles home page, but NOT the history in the Google Toolbar search box! If I turn off the Google Search Box settings under the Setting->Options->Search Box Settings, the history does not appear, however when the history box options are re-enabled, then all the old history re-appears!! I've tried everything I can think of including deleting index.dat files and third party cleaners like Track Eraser Pro, but I've been unable to clear that list for good. Is re-formatting the hard drive the only way to permanently clear this history? Now that would REALLY suck!

I have Firefox and clicking ctrl-shift-delete DOESN't delete the search history in the Google toolbar. I just tried it and I still get the same list of words after typing the first letter. Try it yourself.

Upgrade to IE7, then you'll see a "clear history" option in the drop-down list (I know this isn't much help but I can't help more 'cos I'm on IE7 ).

1. Go to the "Tools" menu.
2. Select "Internet Options."
3. Click the "General" tab.
4. Click the "Clear History" button. To completely disable the history function, set "Days to keep pages in history" to zero.

I don't use IE,let me know if this works.

I am using firefox2.0 and you can clear google search history by clicking on the drop down arrow on the Google button just left of the search box and you'll see the option Clear Search History. Click on it and see your search history vanish away...!!
Abracadabra....

Why worry about a permanent delete? Are you worried you will get caught going to SEOchat? I know my wife is concerned about the time I spend reading/posting here (LOL).

Do what TOMRON said, then go to "Settings" on your Google toolbar, then "Options" then Search box settings and uncheck "Suggest searches from my search history."

Personally, I have had too many issues with IE7 on both of my computers. In fact, it used to be Microsoft's recommended fix for IE7 was to "roll back" to IE6. I don't know if that is still the case. In fact, the only possible benefit I found with IE7 was tabbed browsing. Firefox has that without the Microsoft issues.

Oops! My wife is coming in the room, I have to delete SEOChat off my history.
