Google toolbar affects quality of links?

Since the Google Toolbar can keep track of the websites I'm visiting, it occurred to me that if I have the Google Toolbar running at the same time as I am visiting blogs, forums, and other sites to post/get links to my own site, Google might realize that all the links to my site are coming from places that I have been, conclude that I am posting them all myself, and therefore Google might devalue those links.

Do you think this is a valid concern?

Where did you learn that? I think it`s just a "superstition".

I didn't learn it - I just thought of it myself, because I thought if I was Google I would try to track "fake" links in that way... so I was wondering if maybe Google thought of the same thing also.

Google toolbar doesn't affect the quality of link. I observed that google pagerank toolbar in the top of the Firefox and below of the Firefox have different result of PR. It is means that there is a problem with the pagerank tool or the indication that Google is updating the page rank?

Hmmm... interesting - but probably not valid concern

That would be a stretch - even for google. Drawing the conclusion would be too strong an inference just from your having visited those sites - and probably would violate the privacy & data use terms of the toolbar itself.

I do not think that will works and more importantly you are advertising your website in a proper way and I do not think they would have any problem with that.

i have a lot of google toolbar in my computer..and i have not seen any reason why google toolbar will affect the quality of links. Maybe it will depend on what toolbar is being installed

There is a provision in Google toolbar privacy:
Your choices

* Any Toolbar feature that works by automatically sending Google addresses or other information about sites when you visit them, or that associates data with your Google Account, can be disabled or re-enabled as explained in the FAQ.
* If you do not wish for the Toolbar to send usage and configuration statistics as part of its periodic update requests, you can disable usage statistics following these instructions.

I hope you can use that information to keep your surfing private.

Well then another question comes up. Does google use the information to see if the link is a quality link? (getting info from people who do allow this function)

Out of the people who click through the link do they leave the page instantly by clicking back? Or do they stay on the website for a certain amount of time and move on after finding something more relevant.

All of this information can be seen by google so i wouldnt be supprised if they used it. It would be a good way to devalue irrelevant links from brokers who are just trying to make a quick buck.

If you get a link from a sports car website to lets say... womens shoes, then you can be 100% certain that people would leave that website faster then you can imagine, if google then takes this information it would not be hard to realise that the link on this website is worthless so give it no value.
