Google Function Broken?

This may seem to be in wrong board but this can be accessed via the toolbar. Its not directly rated with Google optimisation nor Google news.#

When i click blue circle with white i button and click backward links most of the time it says no information found.

All the sites have a PR (therefore backlinks) and are well established 1yr + sites. Even for sites with big PR it sometimes happens.

Anyone else finding this?

Dan

Hi Dan. The reason you aren't seeing backlinks is becuase the look up tool (under the blue circle with white button) only reports the higher pr inbound links. I've read PR4 links and up are shown, but it doesn't appear to be totally consistant. There are threads discussing this in the past...you may look for them - I read that it's a good indicator of backlinks, but it never shows all of them.

Anyway, it's been my experience that less and less BL are showing in Google these days, consistant with the growing rumors that PR value is diminishing in the eyes of Google. As for Big PR sites, do you mean 5+? It can have to do with other factors, such as if the url has a query string (I had that problem once).

To be clear, this is perfectly normal, and I see it every day. Sad I know. It's a tease. Reminds of that banking commercial where they're giving away free ice cream...but not cone. Just plop in your hand. Kind a cold...kind a sticky...

After reading your post several times I think I understand your question. You are saying that the commando link: which also can be found in the Toolbar (called Backward Links) sometimes doesn't show any results? Even on old sites with well established PR?

If this is what you tried to say, my answer is this: Yes, I have seen this on one established site after the last hickup, it has PR5, no BL's found.

I think you need to adjust what you are saying here. After the last update/hickup it looks like BL's with LOW PR are shown, PR4 and up is a myth. My experience is that normally more BL's are shown, but there are exceptions. And no BL's shown on PR5+ sites are not normal, but it happens.

Sounds fair. PR5 and up should always show some backlinks; this would indicate a glitch / hiccup or what ever you choose to call it.

I am still not convinced that all backlinks that googles knows about is listed on the backlink search. I'm certain that they used to not all be shown, and feel that even though they may show more, it's not a complete picture. I've read a few threads in this forum about how you don't see all the BLs.

http://forums.seochat.com/showthread.php?t=10738 - discussion on backlinks counted towards PR
http://forums.seochat.com/showthread.php?t=11811 - query strings affeting PR displayed in Google toolbar

Much may have changed, but it's hard to tell for sure. I do stand corrected though...I was half asleep when I wrote it, but that's no excuse!
