google bar server or client side?
I've just published a new page on my site.
GB 1.0 says it's PR 0 GB 2.0 says it's PR N/A Now this makes me think that google sends a value to the bar which then turns it into a value. So a part of the calculation or at least the presentation of the final value is done on the client side. It would be interesting to capture that value ;-) Any ideas? |

The Toolbar query includes a User-Agent (which includes the version)... a query for the PR of www.digitalpoint.com looks something like this:
URI: /search?client=navclient-auto&googleip=O;216.239.57.104;501&ch=63789433254&freshness_check=4fbWcJrgz8d95mVnKABzt&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&features=Rank&q=info:http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Edigitalpoint%2Ecom%2F User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; GoogleToolbar 2.0.95-big; Windows 2000 5.0) So yes... the client-side does transmit the toolbar version. The client-side also transmits the checksum, which is what keeps everyone from making PageRank calculator utilities... because only Google can generate the checksums. - Shawn

Google Checksum generation
I think i know how they do it now or at least i have 1 suggestion. Typical me, I usually end up answering my own questions.I'll publish my solution on Norway's Internet Forum when i get the time since it seems pretty dead here.
