IMHO, every SEO specialist should use the PR checker of the Google Toolbar and not the other checkers that are online or come with the firefox plugins

Pagerank query tools are around really long, and there has been a major change when the toolbar changed her query mechanism, having as result that a lot of tools still use the old mechanism that gives other results, with the new mechanism not resolved for a long time, as it happened i didn't follow it close enough to be sure what's the status of the reverse engineering now

there has been a lot about the pageranking query mechanism, but the only way to be sure about a pagerank is to use the google toolbar

heh i use the firefox extensions normally, but i've seen pages that gave me different results, eg. one extension gave me pr2, the other pr3

so when a big pagerank update has happened, i always check my sites with the google toolbar to see the difference with the previous update

I tried it out just a few days ago, but I'm not a big fan of extra tool bars anyways, I like to keep as much viewing real estate as I can, I only wanted the PR feature on it anyways.

Ended up removing it.

What type of info could it be sending? Is it (or could it be) harmful to our SERPs?

Used for a few weeks now - page rank is fun for a while but I gather PR is only updated quarterly. AutoFill is fun too but not very flexible for mulitple users.

Privacy issues? Well the certainly can't gather anything that isn't already public knowledge - except for usage stats and who cares about that?

I don't know about toolbars and the like, but I find it very convenient to use a Web browser; but only when I have an Internet connection. A Web browser gets boring after a couple of minutes unless you have that Internet connection. (god can someone lock this thread).

My toolbar provides long walks on the beach, mixed drinks with cute little umbrellas, and unconditional love and affection.

Nice toolbar MABDesign.

I don't use the google toolbar. Slightly concerned about Big Brother watching. Maybe this is unfounded though.

On IE I use it; on FireFox I use plug-ins that show PR. PR is not a big deal, but as somebody else already said, it gives you at least a first impression when you first time reach a site.

Personally I'm not concerned about the fact that Google is monitoring the sites I visit and I really doubt this can harm your sites SERPS.

I used G toolbar; I think it is very useful. What type of information is send to Google, your website traffic?.

If website traffic, you worrying for using toolbar. Majority of using Google analytics, that also another way to sending information to G about traffic.

Toolbar Helps
It help no need to open google.com to search.
Look PR directly
Look at Backlinks of your site else well as competitors
Highlight keywords in page
Send link directly by to blogger, gmail etc.
Autofill & Spell Check etc.
