Differences in PR on Google Toolbar with W2000 & XP

Yesterday I discovered that I got a different PR on my Google Toolbar for a particular website than one of my colleagues. We both have the same versions of the toolbar but he has XP and I have W2000.

Other W2000 computers seem to get the same PR as me and other XP computers get the same PR as my colleague.

Can anyone explain why this is, which one is correct and what I can do to correct mine (if mine is the one that is ncorrect)?

Hi arrogers,

Welcome to seochat

The "stock answer" to this is that you're accessing different Google databases but if you've confirmed these differences in results with more pc's then it seems a little too coincidental!

It sure would make an interesting study though!

What's the website (don't post a link or include the "www.", just the domain name & tld)?

If you're right it would be interesting to hear the results from a few forum members (along with O/S's) to see if they pan out!

The website is dieselenignetrader com - PR5 on my PC with W2000 - PR4 on XP

I would be very interested to hear what forum members get with different O/S's.

ClickyB is correct. It has nothing to do with your toolbar, what version of your toolbar, or what version of OS, or the type of OS your using. It the database your IP is accessing, based on your IP.

You can check all the databases HERE .

Thanks for this info. I have tried to change the Google DataCenter that my Google Toolbar uses by adding a line to my Hosts file as per the instruction on the link you gave but without success.

Can anyone help me with this?

Google Datacenters

I don't believe you can change them.

Here's what I do (because I have clients everywhere).

I use Firefox and bookmark each data center (use http:// then one the IP's below, you'll need to identify which one you want), then "open all bookmarks" under 'Bookmarks' when you open that particular bookmarks folder.

This will open each bookmark, which I name by the server that I know it to be, in a separate window for easy access. I believe MSN 7 does this now as well.

Here's are the DC's (these are the IP's spread over 40 Data centers;
