Question //www.domain.com vs. //domain.com pr

This is probably a basic questions, regardless, I was unable to quickly locate the answer. Google PR for sites can be differnet depending if you use the www. before the domain name or not. Why is this?

I will completely redesign / optimize my site in the next week or two (currently it's down), and before I embark on a backlink campaign to support the new layout, I would like to understand the above concept.

example:
http://ecardica.com/ PR=4
http://www.ecardica.com/ PR=5

I presume I should always code my internal links, and request bl to use the same format. I'm guessing the www.domain.com format is best, as that seems most logical to endusers. Please advise, thanks.

your guesses are correct. always link using the same format (preferably www). there may be other reasons why they are different, but one is that if you have 4 links going to blah.com and 8 going to www.blah.com, then it makes sense that the www version would have a higher pagerank. (google sees these as two different pages). so combine them, and you'll now have 12 links going to the www version.

http:// and http://www

New user, so hi to everybody,

I have for some time wondered about the http:// and URL implications:
I have a site where URL and URL have the same PR (5) and the same number of identical backlinks in Google 108.

How this evolved i do not know but I am not aware of anyone linking to the site without www. - So if Google sees these as two different pages I'm not sure what the implications for PR are!
Perhaps I am missing something obvious here...

On some of my sites I have the same backlinks and same pr for urls with the www and the one without.

On my other sites, the 2 urls have different pr and backlinks.

it's weird.
