Why will PR be "updated less often" ??
Hello Everyone!
I've read on at least 3 or 4 occasions on this forum that Google will be updating backlinks and PR less often. Why?? I'm not saying that they won't do this, but I'd like to know why soo many people seem to assume that they will. Is it just "gut instinct" or do you have a reason for your predictions? - Jon :-D |

just a hunch...
Mot likely Google has/is calculating backlinks/PR but is not making them public. At least I've seen recently some major changes that can be caused only by PR/backlink changes. Reasons for secrecy can be many.... 1) Maybe they are Tired of SEOs playing with PR/backlinks (after all, who else needs that data) 2) or they might be in progress with "something big (like live data)" which conserns PR. My bets on number 2. |

I agree with 2K... PR is being recalculated and pumped into our sites... it just has not been posted to the toolbar yet.
I have seen large moves where I have employed PR management strategies.. but sites/pages that have not been given this attention have not moved much. Most of this movement has been during the past week. |

Interesting! I've also seen big changes in the SERPS that couldn't be due to on-page optimization alone.
Not sure if I'm keen on the idea of LIVE PR, but it would definitely makes things more interesting. Thanks for your replies! Last edited by I Am The Walrus! : July 31st, 2003 at 01:55 PM. |

Posting PR
It seems to me that Google would want to post their PR and backlink results. Why else would they have come out with a new version of the toolbar recently. Without PR info and backlink results, the toolbar is pretty much useless.
I believe that Google will not update the PR and backlink data until they finish this very long update. But who knows when it will be complete. It seems that this has been going on for several months. twins.fan Last edited by twins.fan : August 6th, 2003 at 12:21 PM. |

I also believe that google wants to continue to keep webmasters interested with pagrank and backlinks. The hysteria at google dance time was great for them if you think about it. Everyone concentrating and focusing on Google for a period of days is going to catch on to newbies and generate interest in Google quickly.
Nah, I think google is going to have somethin glike a 40-50 day pagerank/backlink recalculation cycle whereby the 'dance' will in effect no longer exist as as currently on page cirteria are calculated on the fly through freshdeepbot. Who knows. It would be wrong to guess anything right now. Google is in danger of keeping webmasters hanging on for too long. some may well lose interest. (Thats very close in coming any Google employee who might be reading) Last edited by Webby : August 6th, 2003 at 03:37 PM. |

Webby, what makes you think that cycle will be so long. I have seen several stories about this Block Rank concept that is supposed to make Page Rank calculation quicker and uses much fewer resources. I got the impression that PR would be calculated much more often once this update completes. Is this Block Rank concept real? Or is it more speculation from people like me who don't know? twins.fan |

Block rank was something in a white paper. It doesnt mean they are implementing it. Also the reason for 40-50 days is based upon how the normal dance was increasing from 30 to 40 days. Its a guess of course but I cant see how google can calculate the complete backlinks and pagerank on the fly. It wil need to have a day to run the calculations. When that day is is anyones guess. I guessed 40-50 day cycles. Could be more could be less.
