To boost PR should we add lots of low PR sites or focus on high PR sites?

We took on the SEO role for our site, www.bartending-school.com 1 year ago, when we determined that we needed to be more visable on the web and our ""tech" expert didn't know anything about links.

Over the year, we started adding primarily directory links. We knew nothing about PR. Our google rankings went up. We are highly ranked against competition in G, Y, and MSN and our PR4 is similar to most (a couple at 5 and 6) Should we be focusing on lots of links, (like directories) or fewer and high ranked PR by select sites with similar themes.

Thanks - This forum is incredibly valuable for newbies like me and obviously valuable for you experts.

Do you just want a high PR, or do you want to rank high in the SERPs as well..??

If you're after the PR alone, go for a few high PR links (7-9), and you will soon see a nice PR 7-8 on your site, but you don't necessarily get more visitors from google for that reason.

If your after higher google SERPS go for many (low or high PR) links from similar "themed" sites, with anchortext reflecting your primary keywords..

Just my 2.cents..
I'm just a SEO apprentice myself, so I guess there will be others who has some opinions on this as well..

Thanks. we mostly want higher SERPS. As our rankings went up our traffic went up, and we became visable in more search terms. I was assuming that high PR helps to high SERPS.

High PR doesn't automatically mean higher SERPS..

Good anchor text in your inbound links is very important, and preferably from similar sites, but (almost) any backlink is a good backlink..

well, i would say, get all the backlinks you can get... a few links from high PR sites are great and a bunch of links from lower PR sites are good, too. but in the end, you should try to get as many backlinks from both high and low PR sites.

Quite. Get as many as possible - more anchor text - and each link will help build your pr anyway.

PR does matter in SERPs

earlpearl...PR does matter in SERPS, let me tell you how. It is said PR
just accounts for 2% in your SERPs. But for high competition keywords
this 2% is what keeps sites out of top 10 in SERP. cause no matter how well
you optimize your page, your competitors if not better it, can atleast match
it. Hence then what counts is the PR. getting backlinks from high PR sites
having lesser outbound links would be better anytime to increase your PR.
I mean getting a backlink from a 5/10 page having just say 5 outbound links
is better than getting backlink from 7/10 page having 100 outbound links.
I hope I make sense here.
