PageRank theory is based on all links, however in terms of "votes" if you are the only one voting that your site pages have something of value > you won't get very far. So yes > links from other sites.

Link to this site -

Something like <a href="#" onclick="window.open('../link/add.html', 'Title', 'toolbar=no,resizable=no,scrollbars=no,width=400,h eight=300,left=0,top=0');" title="page title">Page Title</a>

... and adding the URL string and instructions to adding a link to their web page. Many people who have websites don't have a bloody clue how to add a link but may still want to, if they knew how. Also since we all know link exchanges help, it's obvious that the surfers looking for sites that are "easier" to develop a link exchange > when you show a link program they'll jump at it.

Hi there,

I also used a links program (not found it to be that good). I have found that a useful way of getting more valuable links is to find out which sites link to my competitors within Google. In the google search box, type:-

link: www.anydomain.com

If you go through each link, look at the page rank and manually go through the link process with each one, I have found that this works quite well.

Hope this helps,

Paul

Paul, that's a great idea... look at the back links of my competitors and ask them for links - Yahoo!

any other tips concerning the DESIGN of the page?

(I'm using Zeus for the link exchange and am quite happy, just the sites that link to me are not updated in google yet)

OK, in my humble opinion, here's some tips..

1. Have higher keyword weightings at the beginning bits of text of any page which you want to get a high PR for.

2. Use keywords/phrases at the bottom of your pages eg. in the menus

3. 500 words of text for any one page is a maximum

4. Look at the 1st listed result in google for the keywords you want to get a high rank in... Analyse their pages and look at their keyword density

4.5 Listing keywords at the beginning of your HTML in your page isn't much use as Google doesn't take much notice of these anymore.

5. I use Internet Business Promoter to analyse pages and structure... Quite good...

I think that off page optimisation eg. back links is key.. I'm still learning myself though...

Did the same for my new site, worked great, like 25% of the asked sites putted a link to my site. Although you find out much of these linkpages don't update anymore. But if you like to rank higher than your competitors, it's very much suggested to don't go ONLY trough this process, try finding other sites with your related subject that will link you, the ones the competitors don't have their link on.
