whats your point??
the reason it's in here is to alert people who are going to post questions about pr in the pr forum.... this topic would be worthless if it was sitting in the google optimization forum. |

Simple actually... we don't want a ton of pagerank threads clouding up the general google discussion, they are common and will not stop coming so better keep them organized off to the side. Things that make you go ![]()

My point is if you don't want threads on PR don't have a forum on PR. If you want to just give the info provided in this thread then have a link to an article with this info. A forum, by definition, is for discussion, and since the title of this forum is specifically targeting PR it's absurd to complain when people post questions about PR. It makes about as much sense as complaining about people that call 411 to get a phone number.

It makes more sense than using a Google PR discussion thread to discuss why there is a Google discussion forum for the thread your discussing it existence in I explained that. You really think if we had no Google Pagerank discussion forum that we wouldn't get any questions on it? Fat chance, instead we would have 2/3 of the Google discussion forum filled with google pr questions. |

Of course there would be tons of PR questions elsewhere if this forum didn't exist. It is also completely valid to complain about PR questions in other forums, but given that this forum is aimed at PR it is ridiculous to complain about PR postings here. Doesn't the description of this forum state that this forum is for discussing PR? It doesn't matter if this forum was created to drive PR questions away from other forums, the fact is the invitation to ask PR questions is clearly implied in the forum description.
If you don't like the PR questions asked here then don't read this forum. |

PageRank is a semantics game for most. The way people use the word most of the time (newbie SEOs) is the incorrect way. PageRank is still a viable topic to discuss within the right context. PR is still the heart and soul of the Google ranking algo--that's why it's around. Silly questions about green toolbar PR and your ranking can still be chastised.

Couldn't agree more - even Google says the little green bar is only updated every three months as a 'polite' hint to stop people focusing on it and that you should focus on building a website with good content for the visitors you want to attract and that others will want to link to. |

Heres my take on google pagerank....
New site with one page - zero backlinks, zero pr. Never gets updated. News site - constantly updatd - PR 8 - lniks are navigating new pages. Now i would say that google are giving a PR8 to the news site because it is constantly evolving. The external links just add to its authority. The internal links just prove it quality of structure. Type crap all day long on a blog and you will get a decent PR. I am suggesting that google judges pagerank on their need to crawl the site quicker, links from other high PR sites will make the site seem more of an authority which again will help PR and SE rankings Other factors, tags - using the same title tag time an time again doesnt helpl much to the end user about the page. Varying it a little helps determine where the page ends up on the serps. I agree that PR is BS but in the same light it is a decent indicator of what is wrong with your site. I take a look at seomoz tool. Even thats flawed but I consider it a better indicator Quote:

Making such definitive statements as the OP is, in my opinion, overzealous. Let's face it, no one outside of google knows for sure how PR works, or how close the PR toolbar is to the real value (outside of time delay that is). Speculation that the toolbar PR is inaccurate and a useless measure of a site is just that, speculation. The only way we will ever know is if google steps up, stops playing games, and tells us the rules. Until that time the rest of us are just spectators trying to figure out the rules to the game by seeing distant glimpses of play. It's all conjecture at best.
