SEO expert advice needed

Hello, I am new to the world of SEO and am learning fast. I have a question which I would appreciate any feedback on.

I have a clients site who I eventually managed to get to top 10 rankings across several search criteria. I have managed to do this by several months of constant submission to Google, constant playing with her Meta tags, adding relevant phrases to her page and also linking directly from my site to hers.

OK, as soon as her site hit top 10 rankings, I removed the link from my site to hers as I felt that the job was done and it wasn't necessary to have a "blatant" link from my site to hers. Within a couple of days of removing the link from my site, she dissapeared from the top 10, 20, 50, 100 position! Out of panic, I immediately added a link to her site from my own again. Hey presto, top 10 again within 3 or 4 days. Again, I removed her link, and again, she has plumetted from position 2 to position 243.

My question is this: is this all coincidence, or is her site "dependant" upon my own? I do not want to permanently have a link to her site unless I really have to, but feel that I may be forced to if her sites ranking is somehow influenced by my link to her.

Can anyone help and explain to me what is going on here?

Many thanks in Advance,

John

John,

There are many threads in this forum explaining the importance of
good quality themed links to achieve high serps - I suggest you look them up and all will be revealed.

What is the pr of your site that you are using to link to your client' site?

Hello Stuart, thanks for your reply. My site is ranked 5/10 according to the Google toolbar.

I shall take your advice and look through the forums.

Thanks,

What is your clients PR?
What is your PR on the page that has their link? (5/10???)
Did your clients PR drop (I understand that their POSITION dropped.)?

Check your clients backlinks. Do they have other backlinks from sites with the same or higher PR?

I think THEMED links are a nice story.
I don't believe that the Google algo checks for them.
