Pr7 -> Pr8
Okay, let me start off by saying I'm pretty new to everything to do with SEO... In fact, I didn't even know what PageRank *was* until 2 days ago.
So I'm curious how difficult it actually is to get from a PR7 (our website is currently PR7) to a PR8. PR7 was done by accident (not ever doing any SEO), so I'm thinking some optimizing might bring it up a bit? Of course, that is a pretty vague question... I guess what I'm really wondering is as far as I can tell the PageRank ratings (as far as the 0-10 scale is logarithmic), so going from a PR7 to PR8 (or a PR5 to PR6 for that matter) means a true PageRank increase of 10 times... am I understanding that correctly? - Shawn |

It depends on the Quality of the Links you get. You can get the PR8 with one Link from an PR9 Page if you are the only Link on the Page. Or you need xxx Links from other Sites to get it.

If I had 7 instead of 5 I'd be more than happy. Just try to keep it - don't let anything you do in the future ruin such a good PR!

Well, it shouldn't be too hard to keep since we never tried to get it to begin with. (We aren't selling affiliate stuff or anything... it's a normal company website).

Can we see the page? Maybe you "accidentally" optimised the right way the first time, and there's nothing more you can do (doubtful though...

Good, relevant content and consistent navigation, and 119 inbound links I see. Nicely done.
It looks like you are pretty well optimized for not doing any optimization, but that comes from good design sense. There are improvements you can do however. For instance, http://www.digitalpoint.com/tips/filemaker.html probably gets a few hundred or thousand hits from people searching for "file maker tips". However, there is way over 10 pages of info here! Best to split it up into different sections and different pages, each optimized for a different keyword. For instance, "filemaker-tips-select-field-function.html" could be a page based on just the first tip, and that way anyone searching for "file maker select field" would come straight to that tip. Other than that, not a bad job! With improvements I'd imagine that the sky is the limit! |

digitalpoint - it's alot harder now to get to PR8 than is was "before you knew what PageRank was". ;)
Forget about it -- it will happen "faster". |

I know, I'm not sweating it too much. PR8 gives me no advantage over PR7 or PR1 for that matter. The people who I want to know us already do, so...
It's not like our traffic are random people searching on keywords or anything... - Shawn |
