Don't rely on Google backlinks only, try in yahoo site explorer. You will be shown far better number of links.

Try using popuri.us

It's the tool that I'm using and I find it the most up to date in terms of checking your links.

This might me the Google webmaster tools problem as it's not showing any back link for your blog.

I also faced the similar situation where all mine sites were showing 0 links at webmaster tool so i waited for 2 days and Google webmaster automatically recovered the links.

So, this might be something related to that only as Google becomes weird sometimes. So, wait and watch. This can be the only way to do as i myself only waited for this and got back the links.

Google Webmaster tools has its purposes but properly tracking backlinks isn't one of them.

PR and Competing Websites

I have noticed that some of my young sites have a PR of 3 with very little in the way of back links. I think what i am seeing is that these sites don't have any real competition. It could be that if you are going after pink frog slippers for the theme of you site and you are the only one that your PR is higher. Because you are the only relevant site on the web for that subject. Just a thought.

Hi shortbus,

Nope, that's not it! Page Rank is dependant on links. The competitive level of your target market / subject has nothing to do with it.

Hi Clicky

Is it ever the case that the target market effects the value of links in that market thus effecting PR ?

Just for examples sake

For a subject where links come easy 10 links is worth PR1

For a subject where links come difficult 10 links is worth PR3

Is this a pssibility or are links always valued the same independent of subject area ?

I have never seen a case where this was evident. Your 10 links will be worth differently depending on the PR of the sites that give you those 10 links. One PR 7 link will be worth many PR 1 links. If someone else has seen this happening please correct me.

Google seems to give established sites a PR2 with or without quality backlinks. That almost seems to be a starting point for established websites prior to any optimization.
