PR - Focus Backlinks?

I've been busy trying to get links to my individual static pages with the appropriate anchor text. Is this the appropriate strategy or should I be concentrating on getting links primarily to my home page? Thanks

If you have a good internal pages linking there is no problem (make sure all your pages link back to the home page).

Thanks Cristi, I have a reasonably sound internal linking structure with all pages pointing to www.mydomain.com.

Are you saying that it doesn't really matter?

Inbound anchor text

Inbound anchor text is huge. Keep doing what you're doing FogHorn, it's not all about PR anymore.

Thanks KD, With that in mind... If I have a page optimized for "salmon colored fish" & "colored fish eggs" should the inbound anchor text be split between both individual phrases or should all read "salmon colored fish eggs"?

That may be a bad example, I hope you understand what I mean.

get links to the pages you want to users to see. It is generally a bad idea to get all backlinks to your homepage.

LInks to any page in your site will help. Just make sure that the page getting the IBL is well linked to the other pages in your site.

newer/smaller sites should concentrate incoming urls to the index page. you need to build up the pagerank of this page and go for niche keyword rankings in the serps. after you gain some ranking presence for this index page....then you can develop nodes within your site focusing on other specific keyphrases. this will then free up your main page to go for more competitive keyphrases. but this juncture takes a while to reach unless you fasttrack the process with lots of cash.
