pr drop pr gain
after this last update My Page rank on my index went from a 6 to a five. Now my internal pages went from a 4 to a 5; A mixed blessing. Well does this mean that if I rethink my link structure My index could be potentially higher?

Possibly. If you really want to spend time on this, try using the PageRank Calculator to work out all the possibilites, although personally I would recommend developing more content instead.

Googler, do you have a index.htm page for 'home' link? If yes, then get rid of it, let the home link point to your domain name and you'll see a difference after the next PR update. Since you said that inner pages PR raised and index page Pr droped, so I think it's more of an internal linking problem. Check your linkage and you'll figure out.
And by the way, it's not even a 'mixed blessing' if the pages that got more PR are not important from sales point of view. Optimization efforts and PR should not be wasted on insignificant pages. Index page is often the most important, so think of it. I'm sure you know all this, but still a friendly advice. |
